To provide an economical recovery method which can selectively recover rhodium from a hydrochloric acid solution containing platinum group elements and bismuth and easily yields highly pure rhodium which is excellent in separability from ruthenium or bismuth.
The rhodium recovery method comprises a first precipitation step wherein a nitrite is added to the hydrochloric acid solution containing rhodium to convert rhodium into a nitrite complex ion and an ammonium salt or a potassium salt is further added to precipitate and separate a nitrite salt of rhodium, and a second precipitation step wherein the precipitate is dissolved in nitric acid and a nitrite salt of rhodium is reprecipitated and separated in the nitric acid solution as in the first precipitation step. When the rhodium-containing hydrochloric acid solution further contains ruthenium or bismuth, reprecipitation of the ruthenium or the bismuth is inhibited to selectively separate and recover the rhodium. A production method of metal rhodium is also provided.
