Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain the title rice plant which includes hybrid cells having mitochondria properties of both indica type and japonica type rice plants, cytoplasmic male sterility to japonica type rice plant, but high affinity to the other characters.

CONSTITUTION: The cells of indica type rice plant are fused with those of japonica type rice plant and a new rice plant is regenerated from the fused cells and a hybrid rice plant which shows cytoplasm male sterility and a mitochondria hybrid originating from both type plants is selected. The hybrid is crossed with japonica type rice plant to collect the seeds. The seeds are grown and prosperous bodies are chosen whereby the subject rice plant having novel cytoplasm is obtained.
