NEW MATERIAL:A compound expressed by formula I [X1 represents O or S; R1 represents formyl, 1W3C alkyl substituted with a halogen atom, 1W4C acyl, -(CH2)mX2 (m is 1W4; X2 represents OH, cyano, 1W3C alkoxy, tetrapyranyloxy, 1W4C acyl, etc.), etc.] and salt thereof.

USE: An antimicrobial agent.

PREPARATION: A rifamycin S or 3-halogenorifamycin S (example; 3- chlororifamycin S, 3-bromorifamycin S, 3-iodorifamycin S, etc.) is reacted with a compound expressed by formula II or a salt thereof with zinc, silver, etc.
