Abstract:
PURPOSE:To utilize incident wind from all azimuthes without the occurrence of exfoliation, by a method wherein a slat being rotatable in a 360 deg. arc is mounted to the front part of a rigid main vane provided at the rear with a flap, and an uxiliary slat being rotatable in a given angle arc is situated at the rear of the slat and in the position of the front part of the main vane. CONSTITUTION:A rigid main vane 1 provided at the rear with a flap 4 is mounted between the upper and the lower end plates of a rotatable canvas column, a slat 2 being rotatable in a 360 deg. arc is mounted to the front part of the main vane 1, and an auxiliary slat 3 being rotatable in a given angle arc is positioned to the rear part of the slat 2. Since the slat 2 is rotatable in a 360 deg. arc, auxiliary slats 3 can be respectively positioned to the front and the rear of the main vane 1. An air flow is accelerated and decelerated at the front and the rear surface of the main vane 1, a lift L is generated by a Magnus effect, and can be effectively utilized as a ship hull driving force. This constitution enables utilization of wind in an incident direction from all azimuthes.
