Title:
RING-CHLORINATION METHOD OF AROMATIC HYDROCARBON
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH05255150
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain an aromatic hydrocarbon ring-chlorinated by using a small amount of catalyst and in a high product selectivity and high ratio of ortho compounds in a reaction mixture.

CONSTITUTION: The compound shown by the formula (R is a 1-12C alkyl or 3-8C cycloalkyl) is reacted with chlorination agent, preferably chlorine element in the liquid phase under presence of Friedel Craft's catalyst, preferably iron compounds especially such as iron (II) chloride and iron (III) chloride, and alcohol of 1-20 moles as a cocatalyst, especially 2.5-3 moles per mole of the catalyst, at a temperature of 0-100°C, especially 40-60°C to obtain ring-chlorinated aromatic hydrocarbon. As for alcohol, all organic compounds containing one or more hydroxyl group are suitable, such as alkanol, phenol, glycol, partially etherificated glycol, and hydroxycarboxylic acid.
