To provide a river water purifying apparatus, efficiently purifying the river water by removing suspended matter in polluted water through a filter and quickly causing sedimentation of remaining suspended material, and exhibiting filtering action over a long time without clogging of the filter.

An upper support 1 and a lower support 2 are erected at space between them in the flow direction in the state of intersecting the flow direction of the river water on the ground, the filters 3, 3 are disposed outside each support to thereby define a sedimentation area 10 between a pair of supports 1, 2. A sedimentation attractant 11 for accelerating sedimentation of suspended material in the river water is located in the sedimentation area 10 and disposed between the supports 1, 2. The sedimentation attractant 11 is so constructed that a plurality of sedimentation attracting faces 11B inclined obliquely upward are arranged in the longitudinal direction and substantially in zigzag.
