In addition to a basic map database 21 in which two-dimensional map information is stored, the road guidance system includes both a three-dimensional map database 22a in which three-dimensional map information for daytime is stored and a three-dimensional map database 22b in which three-dimensional map information for nighttime is stored. By clearly indicating both a route to a destination and the points of characteristic points in the two-dimensional map information extracted from the database 21, determining three-dimensional map information at every point from the three-dimensional map database 22a or 22b corresponding to time zones, and providing it for users with the two-dimensional map information, it is possible to accurately grasp the route on two-dimensional maps through the detailed examination of the three-dimensional map information at every point. By printing out information or transmitting information to user portable communication terminals 5, 6, 7 as necessary, it is possible to secure the portability of information.
