Title:
ROAD SURFACE FRICTION COEFFICIENT ESTIMATION DEVICE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3401879
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide a road surface friction coefficient estimation device which can estimate not only the momentary value but also the peak value of a road surface friction coefficient only with wheel speed information.
CONSTITUTION: In the case of a low-μ path, an actual turning center deviation from the turning center of a so called Ackerman geometry is larger as compared with the case of a high-μ path. That is, as μ becomes lower, the turning center moves toward a front wheel side and hence the relationship between wheel speeds VWFL-VWRR becomes the results as shown in Fig. 5 according to the change in the turning posture of the vehicle. Based on the relationship, the relationship among the road surface μ, a difference &utri Vx between front and rear wheels, centripetal acceleration Gy is stored in advance and the road surface μ determined by the μ peak value can be estimated by referring to the map and then retrieving the corresponding road surface μ based on the calculated speed difference &utri Vx between the front and rear wheels and the centripetal acceleration Gy, thus accurately discriminating the high- and low-μ paths.
