PURPOSE: To enable continuous casting of billet into either of a square or circular section with high operating efficiency by forming roll surfaces having a rectangular opposite angle for a billet having a square section in the central part in the axial direction of rolls and roll surfaces having an angle exceeding a right angle for a billet having a circular section to the outside part thereof.
CONSTITUTION: Roll surfaces 1a, 1a having 90° opposite angle for a billet having a square section are formed in the central part of pinch rolls 1, 1 in the axial direction thereof, and roll surfaces 1b, 1b having ≥90°, for example, 120° opposite angle for a billet having a circular section are formed to the outside part thereof. Supporting rolls having the similar roll surfaces are used in the case of casting the billet by using such rolls 1, 1. Then a billet 2 having a square section contacts with the surfaces 1a, 1a in the case of casting said billet 2 and a billet 4 having a circular section contacts with the surfaces 1b, 1b without contacting with the surfaces 1a, 1a in the case of casting said billet 4. There is therefore no need for exchanging the rolls.
