PURPOSE: To grind a roll accurately and rapidly by advancing and retreating a casing which holds plural rectangular-parallelepiped-shaped grind stone while slanting the casing with respect to the roll and advancing and retreating the grind stone housed in the casing with respect to the roll.
CONSTITUTION: A bed 17 is advanced with respect to a work roll 5 along a guide 15 through a rod 23, a crank 26, and a link bar 29 by actuating a hydraulic cylinder 21. A casing 34 provided to the front of bed 17 is slided on rails 32 in the lateral direction with respect to the roll 5 by actuating a hydraulic cylinder 41 provided to the bed 17. Grind stone holders 45 consisting each of a cylindrical sliding part 46 and a gring stone holding part 53 are provided to the casing 34, to hold square grind stones 57 by each holder 45. In the casing 34, and when a double-acting air cylinder 65 is driven, the holder 45 is retreated into the casing 34 to release the clamping of the grind stones 57. In the casing 34, when a double-acting cylinder 65 is driven, the grind stone holder 45 is retreated into the casing 34 and the lamp of the grind stone 57 is released. Successively, compressed air is supplied to a single-acting cylinder 75, to push out the grind stones 57 from the holding part 53 for protruding the grind stones by a prescribed length with respect to the roll 5.
