Abstract:
To provide a roll outer layer for hot rolling and a composite roll for hot rolling which demonstrate superior wear resistance.SOLUTION: A roll outer layer for hot rolling has a specific composition, and includes a structure containing 5.0-20.0% fine carbide with a particle size of 1 μm or less by area ratio, wherein the fine carbide has an average particle size of 0.50-0.80 μm in circle-equivalent diameter, the Shore hardness is 75.0 HS or more and 85.0 HS or less at 20°C, and the Shore hardness is 47.0 HS or more at 600°C. 3.0≤([%V]+[%Cr]+[%Mo]+[%W])/([%Si]+[%Mn]+[%Ni])≤12.0 (1) and 20.0≤[%C]×([%V]+[%Cr]+[%Mo]+[%W])≤65.0 (2), where, [%C], [%Si], [%Mn], [%Ni], [%Cr], [%Mo], [%V], and [%W] each denote the content of the corresponding element (mass%).SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
