To solve a problem in the case of forming a small flaw in a roll of a coating machine or the like wherein if the roll is detached and polished, it takes time to detach and attach the roll, which causes a lowering of operation efficiency.
A polishing device for a roll installed at a mechanical device of the coating machine or the like comprises (1) a travel rail provided above the roll and parallel with a roll axis, (2) a traveling support body suspension-supported to the travel rail and travelable along the travel rail, (3) a vertically turnable lifting arm provided at the lower part of the traveling support body, (4) and a polishing wheel mounted in a vertically drivable manner to the lifting arm and rotated around a horizontal shaft by a rotational driving device. In this device, the roll can be polished as it is mounted, so that time for detachment and attachment can be saved.
