PURPOSE: To change rolls at optional cross angle by mainly constructing a means for supporting a connecting part with a cross assembly of a means for moving the supporting point of a carrier of a spindle and of a means for stretching and contracting the spindle in the axial direction.
CONSTITUTION: A traverse frame 22 is driven by a hydraulic cylinder to slide on the top surface of an up-and-down frame 21 so that a slide frame 24 is positioned at right under the supporting part of a cross assembly 2. The up-and- down frame 21 is lifted by the hydraulic cylinder 27 and the frame 24 supports the cross assembly 2. Then, the axial direction of the spindle is adjusted to an angle corresponding to a roll crossing angle by the hydraulic cylinder. Fastening bolts between the cross assembly 2 and a coupling 3 are removed to contract the spindle and to separate the cross assembly 2 from the coupling 3. After changing rolls with a new coupling 3 and roll chocks, the coupling and cross assembly 2 are connected in procedures reversing to the above procedures.
