To remarkably prolong the life of rolling and to improve productivity and work efficiency by suppressing the generation and growth of thermal crown due to the generation of heat by friction with a rolled stock in temper rolling of various kinds of metallic strips such as a steel plate.
This roll for temper, rolling on which a regular geometric pattern consisting of a lot of one or more kinds of polygons 4 less than a hexagon, and a continuous groove 5 by which the polygons are enclosed is formed. The surface roughness Ra in the polygons is 0.5-5.0 μm, the long diameter of the polygon 4 is 1/20-1/5 of the length of contact arc of a roll with the rolled stock, the depth of the groove 5 is ≥50 μm and the width of the groove 6 is 100-500 μm. In the temper rolling method, the above rolls are used for work rolls and a belt-like metal is rolled in the range of elongation percentage of 0.1-5.0% in the wet or the dry.
