PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable screw rolling while assuring a fixed diameter size without being affected by a blank diameter and hardness by pressing a moving headstock in a direction nearer a stationary headstock and interposing a variable stopper member between the stationary headstock and the moving headstock.
SOLUTION: In the case of working a blank, the blank 30 is set at bearing members 20, 21 and while a stationary side spindle 11 and a moving side spindle 16 are rotated in the same direction, the moving headstock 5 is moved together with the wedge-like stopper member 4 by a hydraulic device and a moving roll die 17 is brought near to a stationary roll die 12. The blank 30 is held between the stationary roll die 12 and the moving roll die 17 and the rolling of the first portion of the working of the blank 30 begins. When a pressure sensor 19 detects the contact of the wedge-like stopper member 4 with the stationary headstock 2, the advance end position of the moving roll die 17 is determined. The substantially large prescribed pressing force is set by additional pushing and thereafter, the rolling is executed in this state.
