To provide a rolling element superior in seizure resistance, a method of manufacturing the same, and a power transmission device having the rolling element superior in seizure resistance.
This rolling element includes a base material, and a coating film formed on a surface of the base material. The coating film in this rolling element includes at least one kind of hard particle having hardness higher than hardness of the base material and a melting point higher than a melting point of the base material, and a metallic material made of at least one of a metal single body and an alloy, as at least a surface component. This method of manufacturing the rolling element is a method for manufacturing the rolling element, and is a method for forming the coating film on the surface of the base material by a flame spraying method of using a flame spraying material. The flame spraying material in the method of manufacturing this rolling element includes at least the one kind of hard particle having the hardness higher than the hardness of the base material and the melting point higher than the melting point of the base material and the metallic material made of at least one of the metal single body and the alloy.
