To provide a rolling method and a rolling system for surely preventing the generation of seizure even without mounting driving means for vertical rolls in a universal rolling mill.
In the universal rolling mill 10, first the vertical rolls 13, 14 are revolved by bringing them into contact with horizontal rolls 11, 12 which are rotationally driven and, next, made to stand by until an inlet sensor is turned on. The vertical rolls are retreated to rolling position when the inlet sensor is turned on. The rotation of the vertical rolls 13, 14 is maintained by inertia. Because a rolled stock 100 is carried in under this state, the material in the nose of the rolled stock 100 is peeled off with the vertical rolls 13, 14 and the generation of seizure is prevented. When the elapsed time from the turning-off of the inlet sensor reaches ( when the rolled stock 100 is delivered from the rolling mill 10 ) a set time, the vertical rolls 13, 14 are again revolved by bringing them into contact with the horizontal rolls 11, 12 and wait the next rolled stock.
