PURPOSE: To correct a defective shape such as middle elongation and end elongation of a material to be rolled by revolving a pair of backup rolls independently to form various crown patterns.
CONSTITUTION: The crown patterns of backup rolls A are changed by the turning of a roll axis 1 on order of straight type, inverted-V type, straight type and V type. Accordingly, when a steel strip W is in the state of the middle elongation, both ends are pressed firmly to use an inverted-V type crown pattern to correct the middle elongation and when it is in the state of the end elongation, the middle part is pressed firmly to use a V type crown pattern. The crown pattern of the backup roll B is changed by the revolution of a roll axis 11 in order of straight type, W type, straight type and inverted-W type. Consequently, when the steel strip W shows a middle-end elongation, the part between the end part and the middle part is pressed firmly and a W type crown pattern to correct the middle/end elongation is used and when it is a quarter elongation the inverted-W type crown patter is used. As a result, the defective shape of the plate can be corrected.
