To enable making the diameter of a thrust bearing larger than the diameter of a work roll, thereby enabling to receive larger thrust load by arranging the journal boxes for thrust bearings of upper and lower work rolls so as not to be overlapped in the vertical direction.
The journal boxes 3 for radial bearings are provided on both sides of the work rolls 1 and back-up rolls 2 and each journal box 3 is slidably held in a housing 4. The journal box 6 for the thrust bearing is attached on the other end of the work roll 1 and the work roll is composed so as to receive the thrust load. The journal boxes 6 for thrust bearings of the upper work roll 1a and lower work roll 1b are arranged shifting each other in the axial direction and made so as not to be overlapped in the vertical direction. In this way, it is possible to make the outside diameters of the journal boxes 6 larger than the outside diameters of the journal boxes 3 for radial bearings and larger thrust load is receivable.
