PURPOSE: To secure the pass line at the prescribed position by providing a device to deflect a work roll in the horizontal direction or support, and a screw down device capable of vertically moving a backup roll even during the rolling operation.
CONSTITUTION: A device to horizontally deflect or support work rolls 3, 4 at the position deviated in the horizontal or slightly vertically direction is provided. In the supporting device, press rolls 9,10 and split.rolls 11,12 are arranged in a successively straight manner, and horizontal cylinders 13-1, 14-i and position detector 15-i, 16-i are provided. Backup rolls 7, 8 are provided with screw down devices 19, 20 which are vertically movable even during the rolling operation. The pass line change quantity is operated by a pass line change quantity arithmetic unit 27 when the pass line of the stock 2 to be rolled is vertically changed, and outputted to servo valves 25, 26 and actuate the screw down devices 19, 20 to keep the pass line at the prescribed position. In addition, the warp of the stock 2 to be rolled can be prevented from being generated.
