PURPOSE: To give excellent wear resistance to a rolling roll made up of a ceramic sintered body by grinding the rolling surface of a roll, then, restraining an amount of polishing work below a specified value and holding a residual compression stress beyond a specified value.
CONSTITUTION: When the rolling roll made up of ceramic sintered body is ground to a prescribed dimension after it is sintered, residual stress is left on the surface of the roll. Then, when an amount of polishing work to finish the surface accuracy is restrained at ≥20m, this compression stress can be left at ≥100MPa. When the residual compression stress of the surface exceeds 100MPa, preferably exceeds 150MPa, excellent wear resistance is displayed, consequently, the life of the roll is sufficiently prolonged.
