To reduce microbarometric pressure wave when rolling stock rushes into a tunnel by forming the leading part of a railcar for Shinkansen by a tip area and an intermediate area, forming the intermediate area in such a manner that the car body cross sectional area changes at a fixed sectional area change rate, and making the sectional area change rate of the tip area larger than the sectional area change rate of the intermediate area.
The leading form of a high speed rolling stock, the leading car of which is greatly influenced by a tunnel when it rushes into the tunnel, is formed by a tip area 31, an intermediate area 32 and a rear end area 33. The intermediate area 32 is formed in such a manner that the car body width of the side surface of an driver' s cab is made smaller than the width near an underframe, whereby a front window of the driver's cab is ensured at such an angle as to watch forward. That is, in the cross sectional form of the upper part of the underframe, recessed parts 34 are respectively formed on both side surfaces of the driver's cab. The tip area 31 is formed in such a manner that the sectional change rate of the car body cross-sectional area is made large to ensure the car body cross sectional area in a short range in the longitudinal direction of the car body, and in the intermediate area 32, the sectional change rate of the car body cross sectional area is made small to make the pressure gradient of microbarometric pressure wave gentle.
