A core cord 10 of a cable containing rope comprises three cables 12, synthetic fibers 16 wound around the cables 12, and 18 protecting steel wires 18 (protecting layer 19) intertwisted around the synthetic fibers 16. Insulating fillers (sheath) 14 are filled between the cables 12 and the synthetic fibers 16. Side strands (sub-cords) 20 formed by intertwisting many wire strands 22 are intertwisted around the core cord 10. When the rope is entirely deformed, the compression force applied to the cables 12 from the strands 20 is received by the protecting steel wires 18. The impact force applied to the cables 12 is absorbed by the synthetic fibers 16.
