To provide a highly reliable and long-life rotary compressor which is used for a refrigerator or an air conditioner by eliminating problems such as sliding between a roller and a vane as components of the compressor, unstable behavior such as bounce and come-off of the vane.
A rotary compressor has a compression mechanism composed of a vane 3 whose leading end is R-character shaped and a roller 4 rotating inside a cylinder 2, and a motor part which drives it. A roller groove 13 is formed on one part of an outer periphery of the roller 4. The leading end of the vane 3 is arranged slidably with the roller groove 13. The leading end of the vane 3 is in contact with the roller groove 13 at least at two surfaces. Even when force pressing the vane 3 against the roller 4 is small similarly to starting period, sufficient transverse force is applied to the leading end of the vane 3 for pressing back it to the center of the roller groove 3, accordingly. The vane 3 is stably held in the roller groove 13. Bounce and come-off of the vane 3 thus hardly occur.
