PURPOSE: To smoothly carry out recovery of a solid substance from a vapor in a rotary cooling machine for cooling the vapor of a high m.p. substance to recover the same as a solid, by a method wherein a heatable casing is provided around a rotary cooling cylinder and, further, a vapor seal is heated.
CONSTITUTION: A casing 9 is provided around a rotary cylinder 1 capable of cooling an inside thereof by cooling water or the like and a heating medium such as superheated steam or the like is passed to an inside of the casing to heat the same as well as vapor seals 13, 14, 15 with heating apparatuses are provided to an upper, a lower and a side parts thereof. A vapor generated in subjecting an org. compound or the like to vacuum distillation is impinged on a surface of the rotary cylinder 1 from an introducing port 3 and cooled thereon to be solidified into a powdery form or a flake form and, thereafter, the solidified substance is scraped off from the surface of the cylinder by a scraper 19 to be recovered as a product from a take-out port 4. In this case, because the casing 2 and the paper seals 13, 14, 15 are heated, solidification and recovery operation of the vapor is smoothly carried out without solidifying and adhering the vapor thereto.
