PURPOSE: To effect rapid and easy identification of a body for detection of rotary deviation for possible inclined input pattern, by rapid detection of the rotary deviation of input pattern relative to the standard pattern.
CONSTITUTION: A TV-camera 1 picks up an image of a body 2 for binarization of an image output through synchronous separation circuit 3 and binarization circuit 4 and the output is issued after formation of a binary pattern. This circuit 4 is connected with the reference memory 5 by a mode change-over switch SW and on the other hand, with an image counter 12 through an exclusive- or circuit 11. And, firstly, the standard pattern without rotary deviation is stored in the standard memory 5 and number of non-coincidence image elements with the standard pattern with rotary deviation is tabulized per each angle with respect to each standard pattern provided with rotary deviation of a different angle and the number is stored in a memory 5. Next, the input pattern is taken in for counting 12 of number of non-coincidence image elements with the standard pattern in the memory 5. In the basis of the result of the counting, the amount of rotary deviation of the input pattern is detected with reference to the content of the table.
