To provide a rotary electric machine that allows uniform impedance in an armature winding and reduces height of coil ends.
Phase coils 11, 12, and 13 that are wound in a distributed manner around a stator core 2 have assembled wires 17U, 17V, and 17W, respectively, as a bunch of a plurality of coated wires. Each of the assembled wires 17U, 17V, and 17W is twisted in coil end portions 20 that project from axial end surfaces of the stator core 2. The twists apply tension on the assembled wires 17U, 17V, and 17W, thereby preventing the assembled wires 17U, 17V, and 17W from being sagged and reducing variations in length of the coated wires in each of the assembled wires 17U, 17V, and 17W as well as differences in length among different-phase coils. Therefore, winding resistance and reactance are made uniform, and impedance is allowed to be made uniform in a stator coil 3. Also, the twists in the coil end portions 20 prevent the assembled wires 17U, 17V, and 17W from coming loose on the axial end surfaces of the stator core 2 and reduce height of coil ends.
