To stably supply an illuminating light of each wavelength region by obtaining stable rotation during driving of a rotary filter.
The rotary filter 51 installed in a light source device for endoscope is provided with the filters 51a, 51b and 51c of different wavelength R, G and B regions and are rotatable around a rotary shaft 54. By rotary-driving the rotary filter 51 so as to interpose the filters 51a, 51b and 51c in an illumination optical path in sequence, a white light emitted from a light source is transmitted through the filters 51, 51b and 51c and the illumination light of different wavelength regions are emitted. A balancer 91 is provided in a part of the frame body 90 of the rotary filter 51, and thus starting of the rotation of the rotary filter 51 is made smooth by the balancer 90 and stable rotation is obtained.
