This rotary internal combustion engine includes: a rotor housing (1) comprising a main rotor chamber (7) including an inner peripheral surface formed in a cylindrical surface (7a), and two sub rotor chambers (8, 9) arranged on both sides across the main rotor chamber (7) and including inner peripheral surfaces formed in cylindrical surfaces (8a, 9a) having smaller diameters than the cylindrical surface (7a) of the main rotor chamber (7); a main rotor (15) which is rotatably and pivotally supported by the rotor housing (1) to be close contact with the inner peripheral surface of the main rotor chamber (7) and has a side surface formed in a convex lens shape; and sub rotors (16, 17) which are rotatably and pivotally supported by the rotary housing (1), in close contact with each of the inner peripheral surfaces of the two sub rotor chambers (8, 9), and have side surfaces having a convex lens shape.
