To control the rotation of a motor by discriminating between an impact by main striking and an impact based on its other factor, in a rotary striking tool using an oil pulse unit.
This rotary striking tool includes a motor having a rotation position detecting element, the oil pulse unit driven by the motor, an output shaft connected to the oil pulse unit and installing a tip tool, and a detecting means for detecting the size of impact force generated in the oil pulse unit, measures a time interval up to a position signal of the rotation position detecting element appearing thereafter when the impact is detected by the detecting means, determines that the impact is caused by the main striking when the measured time interval is a predetermined time or more, and determines that the impact is a half pulse when the measured time interval is less than the predetermined time. When the impact by the main striking reaches a specified output value, the rotation of the motor is stopped.
