This cleaning device of a printer comprises a wiper support member 61 for wiping off a recording head, a cylindrical cam 34, and a drive motor. The cylindrical cam 34 comprises a chipped tooth gear 51 formed on the upper side and a cam groove 52 formed on the outer periphery. A positioning member 62a connected to the wiper support member 61 is inserted into the cam groove 52. Teeth 51a meshing with a fourth gear 41 to which a drive force of the drive motor is transmitted are formed in the chipped tooth gear 51 by approx. half round, and a loosely fitted projected part 60 is projectedly formed in the recessed part of the cylindrical cam 34. Accordingly, the chipped tooth gear 51 can be rotated relative to a second groove formed member within a specified range.
