PURPOSE: To facilitate the repair work by only removing a cover in case of a failure of a rotation sensor by fitting a rotor at the end of a cam shaft to detect its rotation and forming a sensor detecting this rotation in one body with the cover.
CONSTITUTION: When the crank shaft of an engine 1 is rotated, a signal rotor 3 fixed to a cam shaft 2 is rotated. Thereby, a blade 3b passes between the hole element 5a and the magnet 5b of a rotation detection sensor 5, and the detection sensor 5 detects the rotation of the cam shaft 2 in high precision. In addition, since the rotation detection sensor 5 is formed in one body with a cover 4, in case of a failure of the rotation detection sensor 5, etc. it can be easily repaired by only removing the cover 4. The rotation detection sensor 5 is U-shaped, and the hole element 5a and the magnet 5b are faced to the blade 3b respectively and the clearance is constant, thus the correct rotation of the rotor 3 can be detected even if the blade 3b is somewhat viabrated.
