To produce a rotor for a disk brake satisfying the strength to be required as that of a brake rotor for a large commercial car, moreover having high damping property and also excellent in thermal cracking resistance or the like and to provide a method for producing the same.
This brake rotor is composed of flaky graphite cast iron containing a chemical composition of, by weight, 3.4 to 4.0% C, 1.6 to 2.4% Si, 0.5 to 1.0% Mn, ≤0.15% S, >0 to 0.15% P, 0.1 to 0.6% Cr, 0 to 0.5% Cu, 0.1 to 0.5% Mo, 0.2 to 2.0% Ni, and the balance substantial Fe, in which the graphite structure of the sliding part in the rotor is composed of an A type or A type and C type-mixed flaky graphite structure in which the area ratio of crystallized out graphite is 10 to 16%, and a slenderness coefficient k0 concerned with the shape of graphite is 30 to 45, and, the base structure has a mixed structure of dense pearlite, martensite of 0 to 10% and bainite.
