Abstract:

PURPOSE: To lessen a thermal stress generated at the time of braking and causing a thermal check, by making a rotor have a composite laminate structure of two kinds of steel being different in a linear expansion coefficient, by selecting the steel of the smaller linear expansion coefficient for the inside layer of the rotor and by constructing the rotor so that the outside and inside layers satisfy prescribed conditions.

CONSTITUTION: A rotor 3 has a double-layer composite laminate structure formed by laminating the steel of the smaller linear expansion coefficient inside and the steel of the larger linear expansion coefficient outside. Since the linear expansion coefficient α2 of the outside layer of the rotor is larger than the linear expansion coefficient α1 of the inside layer thereof, a difference in a thermal strain between the inside and outside layers of the rotor at the maximum temperature in employment is smaller than the one in the case of a 'conventional rotor formed of a single material'. Therefore, a thermal stress of compression generated in the inner surface of the rotor also becomes smaller than the one in the 'conventional rotor formed of a single material'.
