To obtain a rotor for the rotating machine of a permanent magnet reluctance type which operates as an induction machine at the time of starting and is operated reliably as a synchronous machine at the time of a rated operation.
A permanent magnet 32 is arranged inside a rotor core 31 to offset the magnetic flux of an armature coil 11 which passes between magnetic poles 3b and structured such that, when the armature coil is not excited, the average value of magnetic flux density generated in a space 2 between a rotor 3 and a stator 1 falls in the range of, for example, 0.1 [T] to 0.7 [T], and under a rated load, self-inductance ratio (Lq/Ld) at the hard axis of magnetization (q-axis) and easily magnetizable direction (d-axis) of an armature core 31 settles in the range of 0.1 to 0.8. Thus, a rotor can be obtained for a permanent magnet type rotating machine which works as an induction machine at a start-up time and which can be operated at ratings as a synchronous machine by pulling it into synchronism smoothly under the conditions above.
