PURPOSE: To obtain a control circuit of small capacity by providing a printing head and a pen unit with their respective carriages and by driving each carriage with the help of an independent small-output carriage motor.
CONSTITUTION: A printer plotter is provided with (1) printing head 1, (2) pen unit 2 of the plotter, (3) carriage 3 of the head 1, (4) carriage 4 of the pen unit, (5) shaft 5, 20 supporting the carriage 3, 4 in a slidable manner, (6) storage case 6 of ink ribbon 7 for the head 1, (7) band 8, 9 for carriage shift fixed on each carriage 3, 4, (8) motor for carriage 3, 4 shift and (9) changeover device 15 for the selective transmission of the power of the motor 16 to either one of the bands 8, 9. The motor 16 has only to drive either one of the carriage 3 of the head 1 and the carriage 4 of the pen unit 2. The mass to be driven is smaller than that when a composite head printer is operated and as such an acceleration torque and a reduction torque can be smaller by the reduction of the mass, thus decreasing the output of the motor. The drive circuit of this motor can also be reduced to a smaller capacity.
