To provide a rubber composition capable of improving low fuel consumption and wet grip performance in good valance; and a pneumatic tire using the rubber composition for respective tire members (in particular, for a tread).
The rubber composition includes: a rubber component containing a copolymer obtained by copolymerizing 1,3-butadiene, styrene, and a compound represented by formula (I) wherein R1 is a 1-10C hydrocarbon group; silica; and a silane coupling agent having a mercapto group. In the copolymer: one terminus has an amino group while the other terminus has a functional group containing at least one kind of atom selected from the group consisting of nitrogen, oxygen, and silicon; and the weight-average molecular weight is 1.0×105-2.5×106.
