To provide a rubber composition exhibiting both low fuel consumption and high crack resistance.
The rubber composition for the side tread of a tire contains 100 pts.wt. of (A) a rubber component consisting of 70-30 pts.wt. of a natural rubber and/or a polyisoprene rubber and 30-70 pts.wt. of a polybutadiene rubber, 10-30 pts.wt. of (B) silica surface-treated with at least one kind of (C) a silane coupling agent X expressed by formula (I): Y3SiC3H6SC(=O)R and 20-40 pts.wt. carbon black with a nitrogen-adsorptive specific surface area N2SA of 70-100 m2/g (the total amount of the surface-treated silica and the carbon black is 30-50 pts.wt.). In formula (I), Y is independently a methoxy, ethoxy, propoxy, isopropoxy, butoxy, isobutoxy or acetoxy group; R is a 1-18C hydrocarbon group selected from a cyclic or branched alkyl group, alkenyl group, aryl group and an aralkyl group.
