To provide a rubber composition for a tread capable of improving low fuel consumption properties, wet grip performance and abrasion resistance in a good balance, and to provide a pneumatic tire using the same.
A rubber composition for a tread contains a rubber constituent, silica and resin having a softening point of 60 to 120°C, and the content of a conjugated diene polymer having a constitutional unit based on a conjugated diene and a constitutional unit based on a compound represented by the formula (1) is 5 mass% or more in 100 mass% of the rubber constituent, and the content of the silica is 5 to 150 pts.mass and content of the resin is 1 to 30 pts.mass based on 100 pts.mass of the rubber constituent. In the formula (1), m represents 1 or 2, n represents 1 or 2, m+n is 2 or 3, R1 represents a hydrocarbyl group having a polymerizable carbon-carbon double bond, and R2 represents a hydrocarbyl group, a plurality of R2 may be same or different when a plurality of R2 exist, R3 represents an aryl group which may have an oxygen-containing substituent, a plurality of R3 may be same or different when a plurality of R3 exist, and R4 represents an alkyl group or a substituted amino group.
