Abstract:
Provided are: a rubber composition, for a tread, that can improve dry grip performance, wet grip performance, and abrasion resistance in a balanced manner; and a pneumatic tire in which the rubber composition is used. The rubber composition for a tread contains: a rubber component containing styrene-butadiene rubber; silica; a mercapto silane coupling agent; a styrene-based resin; and a terpene-based resin, a total vinyl content of the styrene-butadiene rubber is less than 35% by mass, and the following expressions (A) and (B) are satisfied.0.2≤α1/α2≤20β/α1+α2≤8α 1: an amount of the styrene-based resin per 100 parts by mass of the rubber component [parts by mass]α 2: an amount of the terpene-based resin per 100 parts by mass of the rubber component [parts by mass]β : an amount of the silica per 100 parts by mass of the rubber component [parts by mass]
