Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a rubber composition excellent in the resistance to wet skid, rolling friction, abrasion and breaking, containing a specified block copolymer having an isocyanate-modified group in a molecular chain.

CONSTITUTION: A conjugated diolefin (a) is homopolymerized or copolymerized with a monovinyl aromatic hydrocarbon (b) in the presence of a lithium initiator to obtain a (co)polymer block (A) of a content of bound component (b) of 0W10wt%. To this (co)polymer block (A) predetermined amounts of components (a) and (b) are added and copolymerized into a random copolymer block (B) of a content of bound component (b) of 15W80wt% to obtain a block copolymer containing at least 10wt% each of blocks of components A and B and having a total content of bound component (b) of 10W40wt% and an average vinyl bond content in the part of component (a) of 20W70wt%. Natural rubber or a synthetic rubber is mixed with at least 20wt% block copolymer having isocyanate-modified groups in the molecular chain, obtained by reacting the above block copolymer with 0.2W10 equivalent, per mol of the Li atoms of a lithium initiator, of an isocyanate compound (e.g., hexamethylene diisocyanate).
