Title:
RUBBER-MODIFIED STYRENE RESIN
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH0234612
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
PURPOSE:To provide the title resin in which the particle diameter of the rubber particle phase and the degree of swelling of a toluene-insoluble portion are each in a specified range and which gives a molding excellent in surface gloss, impact resistance, etc., by polymerizing a styrene monomer in the presence of a butadiene rubber of a specified composition under specified polymerization conditions. CONSTITUTION:A butadiene rubber comprising a butadiene polymer (A) of a styrene content <25wt.% and a 1,2-bond content <30mol% and a styrene/ butadiene block copolymer (B) of a styrene content of 25-50wt.% and having a component A to component B weight ratio of 95/5-45/55 is prepared. A styrene monomer (e.g., styrene) is polymerized in the presence of this butadiene rubber under controlled polymerization conditions. In this way, a rubber-modified styrene resin in which the weight-mean diameter of the rubber particle phase dispersed in the resin is 0.3-1.1mum and the toluene-insoluble portion in the resin has a degree of swelling of 7-14 can be obtained.
