To provide a rubbing cloth which can respond as required to an increased size of the substrate of a liquid crystal display device.

The rubbing cloth is processed in such a manner that a great number of pile threads 3 woven along the warp direction of the base structure consisting of wefts 1 and warps 2 are held as inclined in the warp direction. Thus, the rubbing cloth can be cut along the warp direction and attached to a rotation roller for rubbing so that the cloth can respond to an increased size of the substrate of a liquid crystal display device without increasing the width of the cloth.
