PURPOSE: To provide rubbing cloth having good dispersibility of filaments constituting projection for forming orienting grooves on a rubbing surface.

CONSTITUTION: Warp 12 is composed of the twisted filament 12A and weft 13A, 13B are composed of the twistless filaments 14. Both ends of the weft 13A, 13B are so woven as to constitute projections 13a, 13b for forming the orienting grooves projecting to a rubbing surface side. As a result, the dispersibility of the filaments 14 constituting the projections 13a, 13b for forming the orienting grooves is improved. The intervals between the orienting grooves and the groove widths are eventually made uniform and the display characteristics of a liquid crystal display are improved.
