PURPOSE: To reduce access time to data block by controlling running of hood which runs in the gap region on tape depending upon the presence or absence of demand for the next block during servicing of one block.
CONSTITUTION: Reading and wiriting of data for cassette tapes are accomplished with a central processing unit CPU by way of a date conversion part 3.3, data read-write part 3.4 under control of a state control judgement part 3.5. If the signal being inputted from a read data line 3.7 is obserted, the position of head is known and the information thereof is applied to a control block 3.5 theough an internal signal line 3.15. On the other hand, in the blocks 3.5., running of the tape is controlled by sending command signals such as stop, normal speed running, high speed running, etc. to the tape running control part by the command applied from CPU to command acceptance part 3.2 and information such as head position, timing, etc. that the read-write part 3.4 possesses. Thereby, the access time to the data blocks is reduced
