To provide a new spinel type ZnGaAl-based oxide phosphor by using Al more inexpensive than Ga.
The spinel type ZnGaAl-based oxide phosphor comprises a spinel type ZnGaAl-based oxide solid solution having oxygen deficiency. The oxide solid solution can be produced inexpensively and easily by a method comprising a process for preparing a material solution by mixing raw materials including respective salts and a solvent consisting of two or more of solvent kinds different in boiling point, a process for heating and concentrating the material solution to remove a low boiling point solvent in the material solution and obtaining a highly viscous solution, a process for heating the highly viscous solution to remove surplus high boiling point solvents in the material solution and obtaining amorphous powder, and a process for sintering the amorphous powder in an inert gas atmosphere and obtaining the solid solution having oxygen deficiency.
