PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a safety device and a band saw machine having high safety in cutting work, with a simple structure.SOLUTION: A safety device (20) is a device provided in a band saw machine (10) having a saw base (11), an upper table (12) provided on this saw base (11) and a band saw (15) for traveling in an endless shape between the saw base (11) and the upper table (12) and having an exposure range exposed for cutting by moving a cutting object (M) by an operator (D), and comprises a rotary cover (23) for covering at least the operator (D) side in the band saw (15) and rotatable so as to draw a circular arc-shaped orbit along the movement direction of the cutting object (M), an arm (22) for rotatably supporting the rotary cover (23) in the orbit direction and an arm holding tool (21) erected on the saw base (11) for holding the arm (22).SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
