PURPOSE: To enhance the safety of elevator maintenance workmen and the effectiveness in works by certainly informing the workmen in advance the information on the safety items and technical items concerning the maintenance works of the elevator.

CONSTITUTION: A safety device for elevator maintenance is provided with a machine room 1 for elevator 1 and maintenance switches 8a-8c to be put on at the start of maintenance works and audio signal transmitting devices 9a-9c giving audio information, and these switches 8a-8c and devices 9a-9c are located where the maintenance works are done such as upon the car 2 of elevator or in the pit 4 situated at the bottom of an elevator path 3 for rising and sinking of the car. The machine room 1 includes a built-in memory device 7 which accommodates the safety traits in accordance with each place of maintenance works and also the audio information of the technical items, and further a computational processing device 6 is furnished which judges the combination of the maintenance switch operating conditions and gives under control the audio information stored in the memory device to the place of maintenance works via an audio signal transmitting device.
