To provide an air bag for protecting the breast and head of an occupant capable of reducing interference of the air bag with any other member as much as practicable, and in particular, reducing interference of the areas between different parts of a seat belt and the head protecting region with the air bag without hindering the motion characteristic for protecting the occupant caused by the air bag.
This safety system for an occupant of automobile includes a seat belt 4 of shoulder set type, and the air bag 3 protecting the head and breast of the occupant 1 by its breast protecting region 5 and head protecting region 6, wherein the over-part of the breast protecting region 5 has a back region arranged to admit movement of the seat belt 4 without being restrained, while the head protecting region 6 goes beyond the seat belt 4 substantially and extends backward farther than the over-part of the breast protecting region 5.
