Abstract:
PURPOSE:To secure propulsive force, by installing a mast and plural side sails being pivotally attached to this mast via a support arm, while controlling them with a computer. CONSTITUTION:In time of disuse, a sail 3 is furled by hydraulic units 4 and 4' but in time of use, this sail 3 is unfurled by these hydraulic units 4 and 4'. At this time, with a mast turning gear 5, a mast 2 is made to turn round in response to a wind veer or a ship forward direction. Under the unfurled state of the sail like this, each part of these hydraulic units 4 and 4' is adjusted, whereby a sectional form of the sail is formed into an air-foil form. Data on an anemoscope 21B, a steering angle out of a steering gear 22, a propeller speed out of a main engine 23, housepower, etc., are all read in a computer 24, and a turning angle, a development degree of the sail 3 which makes the most energy- saving effect securable at that time are calculated, thus the computer issues a command to each device in this way.
